The Chief Financial Officer is responsible to provide professional financial management support, advice, training and other required services for the Yellowhead Tribal Council and its affiliated legal entities.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Post-Secondary degree in finance and accounting. A professional accounting designation will be an asset. 
  • Extensive experience in computerized accounting and a strong working knowledge of ACCPAC, SAGE and Microsoft Office. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Five years of experience in management and accounting. 
  • Operate to maximize efficiency and productivity 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 

Duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Advise and assist YTC and its affiliated legal entities status on the financial management  systems in place and assist in corrective actions that may be recommended; 
  • Responsible for the development of financial management policies and practices for YTC and its entities; 
  • Administer and oversee the funding agreements with various funding agencies,  including adhering to the terms and conditions and all reporting requirements. 
  • Reconciles the cash flows of each funding agreement. 
  • Manages the organization's finance department including the supervision of three finance staff. 
  • Assist YTC and member First Nations as requested in preparing for financial audits; 
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals for funding, budgets and forecasts; 
  • Provide financial advice and support for computerized accounting systems within YTC and member First Nations, that includes the acquisition of new hardware and/or software or updating and upgrading systems as required; 
  • Carry out special assignments and projects as required by the YTC Chief Executive Officer and Executive of Chiefs; 
  • Attend meetings when required. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Travel to meetings, workshops and conferences. 
  • The work schedule is dictated by YTC and its affiliated legal entities. 
  • Overtime may be required from time to time. 
  • Previous experience with First Nations government an asset. 
  • Exceptional ability to monitor, allocate, and control finances on a large scale 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills 
  • In-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, and numeracy 
  • Excellent analytical skills 
  • Strong work ethic 
  • Ability to present financial analysis and projections to company stakeholders 
  • Excellent problem-solving attitude and abilities 


Salary will be determined according to qualifications and experience.
