Community Coordinator/Research Assistant

Yellowhead Tribal Council, in partnership with the University of Alberta (Faculty of Extension), is responsible for engaging the four YTC First Nation communities regarding their occupational health and safety needs. The Community Coordinator/Research Assistant will be based at Yellowhead Tribal College in Edmonton, Alberta, and will report to the Project Manager. This part-time (0.8) contract position is funded by the Minister of Labour, OHS Futures grant, and will run from July 3, 2018 to June 28, 2019. This position involves travel to the four YTC member Nations as needed.

This competition is open to members of the YTC First Nations only. 

Roles and responsibilities:

• Organize and co-lead community meetings with identified First Nation departments (e.g., housing, social services, education, health and public works, etc.)
• Communicate verbally and in writing about the OHS research project
• Take direction from the Project Manager of the OHS research project
• Set up meetings related to the project
• Organize and co-facilitate talking circles
• Work with the Project Manager to identify current OHS services and gaps in each Nation, report on OHS needs, and submit necessary written reports as required by the Ministry of Labour
• Work with the Project Manager and the Nations to identify next steps (e.g., OHS training courses/programs)
• Work with the Project Manager and YTC's Finance department to report on funds received
  

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated working relationship with the YTC member First Nations (Alexander First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, O'Chiese First Nation, and Sunchild First Nation)
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and protocol
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Valid driver's license and vehicle

Salary for this 0.8 position:  

$1,539 biweekly
