Job Purpose
Under
the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Department Head of
Foundations is responsible for the daily operation of the Foundations
department programs; Academic Upgrading, University and College Preparation and
Four Winds Essential Skills, along with providing support for students, and
faculty. The Department Head will assist to hire faculty, evaluate instruction,
oversee curricula and ensure the programs are recognized.
Description of Duties
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provide leadership and oversight to all matters related to curricula delivery, programs, planning, new course development, program review, marketing of the programs, teaching, service, and professional development of faculty;
2. Maintain student databases, both provincial and internal;
3. Assist with the preparation of each semester’s schedule;
4. Prepare and assist with program and course assessment;
5. Counsel students for program entry;
6. Supervise student recruitment, admissions, practicum, and retention policies and activities;
7. Respond to student concerns and to resolve those concerns;
8. Maintain an open and responsive communication policy with students;
9. Promote student success through active monitoring high risk students and where appropriate refer students to Student Services;
10. Participate in the student appeal process in consultation with the Dean.
11. Encourage a collegial and positive department/program environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research, and service;
12. Lead and assist with accreditation and program reviews;
13. Uphold the unique cultural standards of Yellowhead Tribal College in all activities;
14. Generate reports, including the annual report and data requests;
15. Represent the interests of the department to audiences both inside and outside the College;
Requirements:
· Teaching experience and progressive administrative experience.
· Permanent Teaching certificate, leadership training is considered an asset
· Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and languages
· Excellent communication and human relation skills that create and support workplace safety for staff and students
· Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and learning management systems
