Summary
The Yellowhead Tribal Council is seeking a Physical Therapist to provide professional services for the Sunchild First Nation and O'Chiese First Nation.
Education & Experiences
A Bachelor of Science (BScPT) University degree and/or a Master's degree (MPT) in physical therapy. Registration with the Physiotherapy Alberta College and Association is required.
Directs
Physical therapy services with clinical supervision to the Rehabilitation Assistant
Organizational Structure
The position reports to the YTC Rehabilitation Service Coordinator and Health Director for physical therapy services.
Summary of Duties/Responsibilities
Physical Therapists involve rehabilitation to help clients recover from disease, injury, or developmental challenges and reach their fullest physical and functional potential. Physical Therapists are involved in:
Evaluation of movement disorders
Assessment, treatment and education of clients concerning issues of physical and functional ability
Implement treatment programs to help clients regain optimal physical function and return to former or modified lifestyles.
Working in cooperation with the client and family
Teaching clients and guiding them in therapeutic exercises and activities that increase muscle strength and joint movement and improve coordination and balance
Application of manual therapy and physical agents to treat pain and movement restriction.
Working Conditions
Services are delivered at the health unit, seniors' lodge, clients' homes, daycare, school, and other designated areas.
Qualifications
The qualification of a physical therapist is a four-year university program (BScPT) and/or a two-year Master's degree (MPT) in Physical Therapy.
Required skills and abilities
Physical therapists value independence, patience, and a good understanding of dealing with sick and disabled people of all ages. They can motivate clients to achieve their maximum potential. Therapists enjoy working with people and in a team of other professionals. They are skilled and trained in applying a wide range of therapeutic modalities and strategies as treatment options.
Rate of Pay
Contracts and service fees are paid according to the current provincial standards in the relevant health profession and the therapist's experience.
