REGISTERED DIETITIAN

Yellowhead Tribal Council (YTC) is hiring for the position of Registered Dietitian. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and culturally unique environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in all areas of dietetics, build strong relationships, and effect positive change for the four YTC First Nations. We are looking for a friendly, energetic, and flexible individual to join our team and work towards the betterment of health for YTC members. 

Education and Qualifications 
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc.) Nutrition and Food Science (Nutrition Major) 
  • Completion of accredited Dietetic Internship 
  • Eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta 
  • Experience- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a community setting is preferred, but not required 

Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Duties and responsibilities are flexible. The successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively with YTC First Nations to determine priorities. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Plans directs and implements a wide variety of programs on nutrition and healthy living in collaboration with community health teams and stakeholders. These include: working in schools and with youth, food skills classes (cooking, food preservation), group education, and public health fairs; 
  • Plans implements and evaluates health promotion activities; ∙ Advocates for healthy food policies within member First Nation communities; 
  • Conducts nutritional assessments and provides diet counselling; 
  • Participates in community diabetes programs; 
  • Monitors clients’ progress and evaluates the outcomes; and 
  • Works with community health teams to plan, implement and evaluate chronic disease control prevention programs and strategies. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Familiarity with First Nations customs, practices, and values; 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with various audiences.; ∙ Good organizational and time management skills; 
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative; 
  • Cooking skills, including food preservation, are an asset; and 
  • Ability to work with children and youth in a school setting is an asset. 

Please note that the successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle. This position requires flexibility to travel, including overnight stays.
