Powwow Dance Lessons with Martina Aginas
Join us for an immersive Powwow Dance Workshop led by Martina Aginas, a talented dancer hailing from the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation. Martina brings her expertise in Nakota and Navajo dance traditions to Chief Aranazhi school, where she serves as the Art and Stoney Language instructor. With over 13 years of experience in Powwow dancing, Martina specializes in the Oldstyle Jingle dress style, while also embracing Fancy, Cowgirl, and Traditional styles when the opportunity arises.
This workshop, taking place on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at YTC Nations in Edmonton, offers a unique opportunity for all ages to learn and engage in the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous dance. Admission is free, but registration is required due to limited spots available. Participants are invited to choose their preferred dance style from options including Jingle and Fancy Shawl, with the option to indicate past dance experience and affiliation with specific Nations.
Martina's dedication to her craft extends beyond the dance floor; she is an avid beadworker, seamstress, and painter, crafting regalia for herself and her family. Through her teachings and lifestyle, Martina embodies the spirit of her ancestors, striving to honor their legacy in everything she does. Join us for this drug, alcohol, and vape-free workshop, and experience the joy and vibrancy of Indigenous dance under the guidance of a passionate and skilled instructor.
