YTC Youth Storyteller Contest!

Theme: Exploring the Significance of Culture, Life Lessons, and Moral Values

Purpose: All stories will be showcased in our exclusive YTC First Nation Child & Youth Storytelling Book, contributing to the promotion and preservation of culture, language, and traditions through the sharing of our knowledge and stories.

Deadline: Friday, April 5, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. MST

Criteria

  • Must be a YTC First Nation member
  • Must be an original story, handwritten and signed with your name
  • Scan your essay using a scanner or phone app (Please use the following links to learn how to scan documents on your iPhone or iPad and scan and edit documents on your Galaxy phone or tablet. 
  • Save & send in PDF format. 
  • Include name, age, phone number, First Nation, address, and signed release form with the submission.
  • Parent(s) and Guardian(s): You must complete the online release form (click here to download PDF release form) with your submission.  By signing the release form, you consent to use your stories, name and age to be published and reproduced by the Yellowhead Tribal Council.

DRAWING CONTEST RULES

  • Must be a YTC First Nation member
  • Ages from 4 to 7
  • Must be original art and signed with the name
  • Artwork must be 8.5" x 11" in size and drawn horizontally on white paper
  • Scan your art using a scanner or phone app 
  • Save & send in PDF format 
  • Include name, age, phone number, First Nation, address, and signed release form with the submission
  • Artwork must be 8" x 11" in size and drawn on WHITE paper
  • MUST be drawn HORIZONTALLY. Vertical artwork WILL NOT be accepted.
  • Artists are encouraged 
  •  be creative in interpreting the theme "Exploring the Significance of Culture, Life Lessons, and Moral Values.” Pride in your First Nation: Images of culture are encouraged through people, events, animals, nature, and moments of community.
  • A "short" positive message MAY be written on the artwork but is NOT required. The fewer words the better. If used, words MUST be spelled correctly.
  • ARTWORK MUST BE ORIGINAL. NO traced, trademarked or copyrighted characters such as Disney, Superheroes, Cartoons etc. No "copycat" ideas of artwork from other posters or artists. Artwork MUST be truly the work of the student and represent the age, grade and skill of the student.

Hosted by Child & Family Services (CFS) and the Post Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP). All stories will be showcased in our exclusive YTC First Nation Child & Youth Storytelling Book, contributing to promoting and preserving culture, language, and traditions by sharing our knowledge and stories.


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Where will the prizes be presented? Prize presentations will take place virtually on our Facebook page at YTC - Yellowhead Tribal Council. Additionally, a list of winners will be showcased on our website under "News & Events" at https://yellowheadtribalcouncil.ca/. Where will these stories and drawings be used? Our exclusive YTC First Nation Child & Youth Storytelling Book will showcase all drawings and stories. What if I do not sign the online release form for my child? Unfortunately, the contest prizes will not include your child’s submission. What if my child is from one of the YTC member First Nations, but I as the parent am not from the First Nation? You can still sign for your child if they are a member First Nation member.
