About Yellowhead Tribal Community Corrections Society

About Us

Yellowhead Tribal Community Corrections Society (YTCCS) was incorporated as a non-profit society under the Societies Act of Alberta on November 26, 1990. The organization's primary mandate is to provide traditional, culturally sensitive programs and services that address the present and future needs of each member community in the areas of Community Corrections and Courtwork services.

Our History and Growth

From its humble beginnings, YTCCS has developed into a respected organization in the delivery of correctional services. We proudly serve the Nations of Alexander First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, O'Chiese First Nation, and Sunchild First Nation. Over the years, we have built a reputation for providing culturally informed and community-based solutions that respect and integrate Indigenous traditions and values.

Our Services

YTCCS offers a range of programs designed to meet the unique needs of Indigenous individuals navigating the justice system:

  • Indigenous Criminal Courtwork: Support and advocacy for Indigenous individuals involved in criminal court.
  • Indigenous Bail Courtwork Services: Assistance to Indigenous individuals at the Edmonton Remand Centre and Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre in navigating the bail process.
  • FASD Mentorships: Through the Kind Heart Mentor program, we provide mentorship and support to individuals with complex needs, helping them to navigate their personal and legal challenges.
  • Youth Peacemaker: Advocacy and supports for youth aged 12-25 that reside on O'Chiese and Sunchild First Nations.
  • Restorative Justice:  This program focuses on repairing harm and restoring relationships. It seeks to address the needs of victims, offenders, and the community through a collaborative process that promotes healing, accountability, and reconciliation.

In addition to these services, YTCCS is actively involved in several initiatives aimed at improving the overall justice system, focusing on building stronger, more resilient communities and fostering greater understanding between Indigenous peoples and the justice system.

Our Vision for the Future

As we look to the future, YTCCS remains dedicated to enhancing the quality and accessibility of justice services for our member communities, ensuring they are supported in a culturally relevant and meaningful way.
