POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Learning Coordinator is responsible for organizing, delivering, and managing activities related to the field education component of the social work program. The Community Learning Coordinator is also
responsible for ensuring that the field education component of the program is aligned with current Alberta College of Social Workers diploma program standards and with the NIB Wisdom-Based Practices and Responsibilities for Social Work Education Programs.
PROGRAM GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE
For the purpose of ensuring project alignment with ACSW program standards, the Community Learning Coordinator reports to the Social Work Department Head, who provides the Community Learning Coordinator with direct supervision for daily operations related to field education organization, implementation, evaluation, and modification. The Department Head provides program oversight regarding curriculum standards and transfer agreements and ensures that program elements are rooted within Indigenous knowledge systems. The Community Learning Coordinator ensures that students receive a wide range of supports throughout their field education experience, such as access to Elders, academic advising, and personal counselling. The Community Learning Coordinator interacts directly with YTC personnel from various departments, including IT, library, and student services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- In collaboration with the Department Head, ensuring that all aspects of field education meet current ACSW program standards and NAB standards for social work education;
- Identifying and securing practicum placements;
- Organizing and delivering Community Learning Orientation Sessions for students and field supervisors:
- Supporting students and field supervisors with the completion of required practicum documents;
- Engaging and supporting students throughout the duration of field education;
- Maintaining regular contact with students and field supervisors through a variety of methods, including site visits;
- Developing and delivering professional development workshops for field supervisors;
- Developing and submitting monthly field education reports to the Department Head; and
- Collaborating with Elders, instructors and others as required.
- Instruct courses within the social work department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Social Work credential with a Master's degree in a related field
- Professional Certification: requires Registered Social Worker (SW) status with the Alberta College of Social Workers; and
- Valid Driver's License
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- Working with Indigenous peoples, organizations and communities;
- Direct social work practice at front-line, policy, or community engagement levels;
- Prior experience as a Field Supervisor for students enrolled in social work education is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; and
- Knowledge of the structural sources of social issues coupled with a commitment to social justice.

OTHER DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and languages;
- Teaching experience within adult education settings; and
- Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and databases
