EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Mental Health Crisis Response Team Lead (MHCRTL) is responsible for establishing the Mental Health Crisis Team to assist, and provide support to, YTC member Nations in their efforts to address crises and trauma in their Nations. The MHCRTL will engage and communicate with the four Yellowhead Tribal Council (YTC) First Nations to develop protocols, policies and procedures for the Mental Health Crisis Response Team.  The MHCRTL will be the first point of contact when a crisis occurs in one of the Nations. They will provide assistance to the Nation(s) and will work directly with the community-based crisis response teams.


The MHCRTL is responsible for the development and execution of a Crisis Response Services Delivery Model. The Crisis Response Services Delivery Model will be reviewed and approved by the leadership in each of the four Nations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or another related field
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a leadership/supervisory position
  • Three (3) years’ experience working with First Nations’ people
  • Experience developing relationships with community organizations and stakeholders
  • Project management experience and/or certification
  • Crisis Intervention Support Worker, Mental Health First Aid certification, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • knowledge of cultural traditions and protocols
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership: 

  • Provide sound and professional leadership when a crisis response is activated in one of the four Nations;

  • Lead and support professional staff;

  • Prepare and present information as required to Chiefs and other members of the leadership team;

  • Program management - coordinate, monitor and evaluate the program;

Policy:

  • Develop protocols, policy and procedures that align with a formalized structure for mental health crisis response;

  • Prepare briefing notes and other informational material for Chiefs, Health Directors and other members of the leadership team;

Cultural Support and Knowledge:

  • Ability to engage with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Traditional Healers;

  • Knowledge of the cultural vibrancy and diversity that exists within the YTC four member Nations;

Crisis Response:

  • Conduct risk assessments;

  • Provide debriefing sessions with team members and the four member First Nations.

Community Engagement:

  • Establish community engagement, collaboration, and communication processes with the four YTC member Nations;

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel to the member First Nation communities as required and / or requested

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

SALARY:

Salary will be determined according to qualifications and experience
