Survey Overview & Purpose

The purpose of this survey is to seek and gather Traditional Knowledge on child-rearing practices from our Yellowhead Tribal Council (YTC) four Nation members.

Before colonization, our families and Nations practiced traditional parenting methods and teachings passed down since time immemorial. These cultural systems were deeply rooted in identity, community responsibility, and social well-being. Revitalizing these traditional ways is essential—they reflect what worked for our people and our ancestors and can once again strengthen our communities.

Through this survey, we aim to:

  • Understand how traditional parenting knowledge has been passed down

  • Identify where revitalization is most needed

  • Inform future programming, community workshops, and cultural initiatives focused on parenting, language, and rites of passage

Your voice is essential to ensure these efforts are rooted in lived experience and cultural knowledge.

Who Should Participate

We welcome all YTC Nation members aged 18 and over, including students, parents, youth, Elders, and knowledge keepers.

This survey is especially relevant if you:

  • Grew up with or have knowledge of traditional parenting and family roles

  • Have experience with cultural protocols and rites of passage

  • Wish to share how traditional teachings continue to influence your life

All responses are confidential, and participants are encouraged to share only what they feel comfortable disclosing.
